Art For People
Art Direction / Print Design
Art for People is the latest edition of Providence College’s Art History and Studio Art Journal.
I served as art director and lead designer for this year’s edition, which showcases senior studio art exhibitions alongside Art History thesis papers. This experience deepened my skills in layout, typography, and print production, and gave me the opportunity to lead a team of creatives from concept through final delivery.
All of the design decisions I made in creating this book were oriented toward faithfully highlighting the work of this year’s students. I intentionally kept the design clean and restrained to avoid competing with the diverse visual styles represented. My typographic solutions favor legibility and clarity, while the overall architecture, scale, and feel are meant to invite thoughtful interaction.
The cymk color scheme and cover are meant to invoke the process of designing and printing the book itself —an homage to both analog and digital workflows in print design.
Introduction
This year’s edition of Providence College’s Art Journal presents a diverse collection of thesis projects from the talented students of the Art and Art History Department. The journal serves as both a showcase and a celebration of the creative and intellectual efforts that have defined our students’ journeys this semester.
Each piece featured in the journal is the culmination of deep research, experimentation, and personal expression—reflecting the diverse perspectives, techniques, and themes explored in our studios and classrooms. From painting and sculpture to photography and digital media, these works range from addressing contemporary problems to inspiring fantastic creativity with the use of modern technology.
Accompanying many of the visual pieces are critical reflections and historical analyses, offering insight into the creative processes and the contexts that shaped them. As you explore the class of 2025’s collection, we invite you to engage with the stories, concepts, and emotions embedded in these final projects. May they spark dialogue and serve as a testament to the power of art in shaping our understanding of the world.
